Damn it. The Supreme Court found an individual right to gun ownership, and affirmed the DC Circuit court's ruling.

Seems to me that the 2nd Amendment expressly calls for the right for armed, well regulated militias. Not every Tom, Dick, and Harry.

(I must confess to being amused that the Post's article says that Cheney supported the DC appellate court's ruling-seems to be that lawyers and judges would be the last people to want Cheney armed.)

Except that when the constitution was WRITTEN, the "militia" WAS every Tom, Dick, and Harry, plus Mary, Sally, and Sue at home defending themselves and their kids while the men were off fighting. I am all for regulating gun ownership via requiring registration and training and waiting periods, but I am absolutely opposed to preventing individuals from owning guns. The criminals will always have guns, making gun ownership illegal won't stop that. (CNN cites There were 143 gun-related murders in Washington last year, compared with 135 in 1976, when the handgun ban was enacted.)
If dude breaking into my house is gonna have a gun, and he probably will, then I sure as fuck want one too.
